Adventures in Easyjet: A Letter of Complaint

Edit: ooh, I received a reply. See the bottom of this post.

Last week, on February 20th, I was scheduled to fly from Stansted to Edinburgh on EasyJet flight 233. Despite being a frequent flier, I have to admit I’ll award that flight the dubious honour of being the single most appalling flight experience I have ever had.

Upon arriving at the airport at 6:45am, we discovered that the flight’s departure time had been delayed from 8:45 to 10:00. This, considering how Stansted makes me lose my will to live at the best of times, is, in itself, bad enough. Consider that statement foreshadowing; it gets much worse. (more…)

Adventures in location-based blogging

So, by now you probably can’t have failed to notice that I’m taking off on a grand tour of Europe – I’m expecting it’ll take about 3 weeks, and that by the end of it, I’ll have done about 3,500 miles.

Of course, being a complete and utter geek, I’ve been looking into how I can keep all my friends and family posted while I’m on the road – and I think I’ve found a solution. From Brightkite, the feeds are picked up by other services, and depending on what you’re interested in, you can choose to see what I’m up to. (more…)

So, this week-end, I’ve spent a lot of time riding around on a motorcycle (Honda XR, to be exact, which is a 125cc, road-legal, 5-speed trail bike). This morning I handed it in and stepped straight back onto my scooter (Gilera Runner VX Special – twist and go continuous variable transmission (CVT), 125cc). The difference between the two bikes are so vast that it’s almost unbelievable that they both share some traits (2 wheels and a 125cc engine)… (more…)

Experimental Tourism

Lonely Planet recently published a Guide to Experimental Travel. The idea is to travel somewhere, and take a surreal approach to exploring a new place, by taking an alternative idea to route selection. In theory, this means that you might stumble across some typical touristy-type things, but you will also experience sides of the city / place / country that you wouldn’t discover otherwise. (more…)
