Why airport security is ultimately pointless

I have a huge problem with all the panic that happens every time a ‘terrorist’ manages to make a half-witted attempt at blowing up a plane…

True terrorists have no qualms about going on suicide missions, but are frequently screwed by being really bloody unintelligent. There’s are sure-fire way of getting a bomb on board a plane, which nobody would be able to do anything about, and which current detection methods can’t even track. (more…)

Revealed: brutal guide to punishing jailed youths

Says the Observer: “Shocking details of techniques used to inflict pain deliberately on children in privately run jails have been revealed for the first time in a government document obtained by the Observer.

Some of the restraint and self-defence measures approved by the Ministry of Justice include ramming knuckles into ribs and raking shoes down the shins. Other extraordinary passages in the previously secret manual, Physical Control in Care, authorise staff to(…)”

Astro Star Cafe

[for the purpose of this review, please pretend it's formatted as a proper screenplay.]

Meeting at the death star

Inside a large, 20-sided room with tasteful but muted lighting.

The room has a long, horse-shoe shaped table in it. At the most rounded side of the horse-shoe stands DARTH VADER, obviously pissed off. The 10 or so aides available are huddled towards the legs of the horse-shoe shape

Cafe review: Lock 7

I’ve been running my own company for a little while now, and while working out of your bedroom is pretty awesome (it means you can work in your underpants), it isn’t too good for your social life – so I started the hunt for a home-away-from-home, in the shape of a nice cafe with free WiFi.

I stumbled across Lock 7 on a website, and decided to go have a look. A cycle shop combined with a cafe? How awesome does that sound? Well, I’ll be honest with you – it’s exactly as awesome as it sounds: The friendly staff appears to be competent with the spanners when it comes to bikes, and I can vouch for their competency with an espresso machine.

Cheap and cheerful eats, lovely tunes, and working in what’s essentially part bicycle workshop, part bike museum, part cafe.

It’s got the Shoreditch vibe without being that special Shoreditch flavour of wanky and without really actually being in shoreditch, to boot. Sit for hours to watch the world go by… I mean… to work. Yes. To work.

Highly recommended.

My desktop background’s black

Well, you wonder why my desktop background’s black?
Why you never see bright colors on my Mac?
And why does my crypto-clearance seem to have somber tone?
Well, there’s a reason for the things that I turn on. (more…)
